Miss Channer's Lace Mat
Subtitled: Supplement to In the Cause of English Lace by Anne Buck
This is the mythical pattern that has caused so many conversations between lacemakers.
When Ruth Bean published Ann Buck's book, she also put out a small print run of the pattern.
It appears in an oversized card folder with a photo of the lace on the front.
Inside, is an enlarged photo of the lace along with history notes and a sample, made real size.
The pricking is provided full size.
The original piece, designed by Miss Channer
was worked by Mrs Dixon of Clapham, Bedfordshire around 1926. It is now in the collection of the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford.
This pricking was adapted by Patricia Bury, St Albans, in 1991 from an earlier copy in her collection.
What works well?
- The full colour, black and white picture of the original lace is perfection.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
- This pattern requires over 250 pairs of bobbins to complete
- There are no notes or diagrams for this pattern.
- This pattern is out of print and rarely appears for sale second hand.
