Local Groups and support
Making lace is now a home skill that is often done, solitarily. However, meeting with other lacemakers is always a wonderful experience and I would strongly encourage anyone who makes lace to join their local group.
I set up the Rothwell Bobbins as a way to link with local lacemakers and people who wanted to learn to make lace.
I joined ISIS lacemakers in 2009 and still attend their lace days. They meet twice a month, on Tuesday evenings and run two successful lace days a year.
Closer to home are the Rushden afternoon group who meet each Monday between 2 & 4pm at Rushden Mission Church during term time.
Nene Lacemakers are another local group. They meet both evenings and Saturdays, which gives more opportunity to connect with people who work during the week.
When we moved to Cambridgeshire in late 2015, I was lucky enough to have an abundance of local groups to attend.
When I lived in Oxfordshire, my local group are the ISIS lacemakers and I'm very proud to still be a member. (1st and 3rd Tuesday of the Month)
Supporting your local group is an excellent way to meet other lacemakers and to get inspiration for your next project.
If you are unable to meet with other lacemakers because of distance or mobility then there are other options such as Facebook or Arachne.
If you are new to lacemaking and want support there is a great Facebook group which was started during 2020 and which has regular zoom meetings - Beginner Bobbin Lacemakers
