Publisher  : Jean Mary Eke Publishing (2009)
ISBN  : 9780956352712
Pomegranates in Bobbin Lace Part 2 by Jean Eke and Sandi Woods
The Queen Katherine Connection

Firstly, the red cardinal, from Part 1, is shown reworked in dark navy to produce a blackbird and working instructions are given for this.  Please be aware that the pattern for the blackbird / red cardinal is not in this booklet.

Included in this booklet are two sets of patterns, firstly the Pomegranate & crown from the front cover and another pomegranate in Milanese and secondly two Bruges Flower lace flower motif patterns.

Although there are working instructions in this booklet, a good knowledge of Milanese lace and Bruges Flower lace is assumed so this is aimed at the intermediate to advanced lacemaker.
What works well?
  • The booklet contains not just the two patterns along with working instructions but also historical information on Katherine of Aragon.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • The blackbird pricking is not in this booklet, but in part 1
  • This booklet is out of print and is rarely seen.

  • ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 0713453311
  • ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-0713453317
Bobbin Lace in Photographs by Cynthia Voysey
This book was the culmination of Cynthia's love of bobbin lace and photography.

The pictures are of excellent quality and show bobbin lace through the narrative of images.  The photos are arranged in chronological order of the lace development.

If you are looking for more of a commentary or written history then I would recommend The History of Lace by Margaret Simeon.
What works well?
  • This book illustrated throughout with high quality black and white photographs
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This is a visual guide to lace with no commentary, only short sentences detailing the type of lace and period.
  • This book is out of print, but is often available second hand.

I'm the lace bee and these are my books

With currently over 400 books and about the same number of individual patterns, I have an enviable library.  So here are some of my books.

You can see all of the titles by opening up the archives or by clicking on the categories which I've used to group by authors, language and lace types.  Want to find a particular book?  Scroll to the top of the page, click on the magnifier glass and type in a title or author.

I am very grateful to the lace gumnuts of Australia for permission to quote and link their reviews to this site.
