Designs in Point Ground Lace from Australian Wild Flowers - Elywn Kenn

Publisher : Kangaroo Press Pty.Ltd (1994)
ISBN-10 : 0864175779
Designs in Piont Ground Lace from Australian Wild Flowers by Elywn Kenn
Elywn has created a series of three books using Australian wildflowers as her inspiration for her  bucks point patterns.

This is the third book in her series and is aimed at lacemakers of all levels.
What works well?
  • The book is lusciously illustrated throughout with line drawings of the flowers that have inspired each of the patterns.
  • Large scale black and white working diagrams are included showing set up of the bobbins.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This book is out of print, but copies appear regularly on eBay

Discover, Explore and Master Torchon - Ulrike Voelcker

RSS Feed

Ulrike Voelcker's three volume Torchon tuition is probably the definitive for teaching yourself everything about Torchon lace.

The three volumes are supplied as A4, 4 hole punched sets.  You purchase each individually, however, some suppliers offer special offers on them.

Probably the hardest task with these three volumes will be finding a A4 folder for our American friends.

What works well?
  • Exceptionally clear photography
  • Colour coded diagrams throughout
  • High quality, clear printing

Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • There is a technique index, but this is on the last page of volume three so is only available once you purchase this
  • The English translations are readable, but may need a little thinking to understand the translation.
  • Some of the prickings need to be enlarged and the information on what percentage is not always obviously placed
  • Some of the terminology may be different to what you use, in which case, you should look carefully at the stitch diagrams and the use of C & T (cross and twist) to understand the stitch
  • A few of the techniques such as leaves and tallies are explained, but for those new to the techniques I would recommend watching YouTube videos on these from people such as Louise West.

I'm the lace bee and these are my books

With currently over 300 books and about the same number of individual patterns, I have an enviable library.  So here are some of my books.

You can see all of the titles by opening up the archives or by clicking on the categories which I've used to group by authors, language and lace types

I am very grateful to the lace gumnuts of Australia for permission to quote and link their reviews to this site.
