Designing & Mounting Lace Fans - Christine Springett

Publisher : Self Published
Every lacemaker wants to make a fan leaf at some point.
Christine's book gives clear and simple instructions on how to mount your fan leaf.

In 2019, fan making was added to the Red List, endangered category by the Heritage Craft Association.
At their AGM, they acknowledged that the need for fan sticks by lacemakers was helping to prevent this industry from becoming extinct.

As of 2019, Lacemaking is marked as currently viable, but this is due to interest in learning at an interest level rather than a professional level.
What works well?
  • This has to be the go to book for anyone wanting to mount a fan leaf

Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This book is still in print and available from the author so do support Christine Springett by buying direct.

Threads for Lace - Brenda Paternoster

Publisher : Self Published
Threads for Lace
Brenda Paternoster

Probably one of the most useful books on the market for lacemakers and fibre artists.

Threads for Lace by Brenda Paternoster helps you to find a thread to substitute in patterns.

Great when you don't want to have to buy a new spool and essential when the quoted thread is no longer manufactured.
Picture
What works well?
  • Brenda explains how to take unknown threads and yarns and count the wraps per inch (WPI) so that you can then find a substitute within the book.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • The current edition is sold out, but copies are occasionally available from different sellers and on eBay.
  • Brenda has addendums for any of the previous version in her book on her website.
  • For more information, visit Brenda's website
