  • All of the patterns on the front and back cover are included in the book
  • The book is filled with clear diagrams and is multi-lingual
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This book is available on kindle but care should be taken to ensure that you are able to print the patterns out at the correct size.

The book includes some interesting patterns for all levels of lacemakers, including the collar shown on the book's cover.
Picture

  • Both the technique section (at the front of the book) and many of the patterns contain clear and detailed line drawings of the techniques
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • Whilst this is not a step by step guide to making Russian lace, it does contain an excellent reference section at the front and each of the patterns come with key information that will help the lacemaker.

International Lace Dictionary - Edith Spee

Publisher ‏ : ‎ J. Coene (1 Jan. 1994)
International Lace Dictionary by Edith Spee
The best way to think of this book is as a thesaurus.
  • Identify the term you want to translate.
  • You then look this up in the alphabetical section for that language.
  • When you find the term, there will be number associated with the term.
  • You turn to the front of the book and look up the number.
  • This then gives you that term in all the languages of the dictionary.
Picture
What works well?
  • The book covers English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese and Danish.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This book is out of print and very rarely comes up on second hand sites or eBay.
This book has been reviewed on the lace gumnuts website
A cross reference of some 630 English words used in lacemaking, with equivalents in French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Catalan, Italian and Portugeuse in the first half, and equivalents  in Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Hungarian, Czech, Russian and Japanese in the second half.  Total of 178 pages, soft cover, hard wire spiral bound, measuring 210mm x 150mm.

A most useful addition to the library of anyone who has acquired lace books in another language!

Rosaline Lace by Ghislaine Eemans-Moore

Publisher ‏ : ‎ Batsford Ltd; First Edition (5 Nov. 1996)
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 0713476036
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-0713476033
Rosaline Lace by Ghislaine Eemans-Moore
This book covers the techniques of Rosaline Lace which Ghislaine Eemans-Moore had worked to bring back into fashion following her studies at the Kant Centre in Bruges.

Rosaline lace has a characteristic embroidered 'peal' which, when joined, create the 'Rosaline-Perlée'

There are few books on this 'forgotten' technique with Jan Geelen's Rosaline Perlée (1991) being one of the few other books on the subject.
What works well?
  • The step by step black and white photos work well to guide the lacemaker through the steps
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • Similar techniques are used in Honiton and Duchess so this book would make a good 'next move' for anyone familiar with those laces.
  • This book is currently out of print and only occasionally appears as a second hand book.

ISBN-13 : 978-0713487008
50 Dutch Bobbin Lace Patterns : Withof & Duchess by Yvonne Scheele-Kerkhof
Closely related to Honiton lace, Withof and Duchess lace is a great next step.

Although this book was touted as a revised volume of Withof Lace, it is not and Withof Lace has 92 patterns within it.

The book is divided into two sections; techniques and 50 patterns.

With clear photographs and line drawings this book takes you through the key steps to learn this lace.  It also includes suggestions for each of the patterns on adaptation.
Picture

  • This book includes a complete set of letters for anyone looking for an alphabet
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • This book is currently out of print, but is often available on from online booksellers and occasionally on eBay
