This book was reviewed on the lace gumnuts website:
Excellent introductory diagrams and working diagrams, all colour coded.
Patterns include 3 sets of of edges and corners, two round edges, a star edged mat and a deep collar edge with matching cuffs.
Not to be confused with the more recent publication, Cluny de Brioude dentelle polychrome, by Odette Arpin alone.

Languages and Translations

So, you've bought a book that is not in a language that you read.
No problem.
I would strongly recommend downloading the Google Translate app on your phone.
This allows you to hold your phone over the text and it shows the translated text on your phone screen.
I've used this successfully to read Russian lacebooks.
  • Google translate on the apple store
  • Google translate for android

Himmlische Weihnachten, Heavenly Christmas - Christine Mirecki

Publisher : Eigenverlag (2013)
Text : German, English, French
Himmlische Weihnachten, Heavenly Christmas by Christine Mirecki
Beautifully illustrated throughout with colour photographs and diagrams

This book contains numerous 2 and 3 dimensional pattern for Christmas decorations.

There are a number of stars which can be made, using Bedfordshire techniques, with just two pairs and would be a great project for anyone who likes Bedfordshire lace.

Some of these are plaits only and would be perfect for enthusiastic beginners in Bedfordshire

What works well?
  • The prickings, in many cases, double as the diagram which makes them very clear to work from.

She is a prolific author who had published a number of books.

This book is one of her best know and certainly most accessible.
What works well?
  • This book is multilingual: English, German and French
  • The book is well illustrated with photos of the lace throughout
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • A number of the larger patterns are not printed as a full pricking, but rather as a segment which then has to be put together after photocopying.
  • This book is currently out of print, but is often available on eBay
What do other people say?
The Lace Gumnuts site has also reviewed this book:
Full of fascinating projects, with the prickings fully drawn and making good working diagrams.  Some of her stuff needs a bit of thinking about, but it all seems to fall into place as you do it.  Mats, edges, motifs, a fan, collars and dress trims, all sorts of great ideas.
A recommended book for anyone’s lace library
