An Introduction to Milanese Lace - Pat Read

Publisher : The Lace Guild (2008)
ISBN : 978 1 901372 24 3
An Introduction to Milanese Lace by Pat Read
Pat Read is one of the most recognisable names in Milanese lacemaking.
Her other books are now out of print and command exceptionally high prices so this booklet offers lacemakers an accessible to learn Pat's techniques.
The aim of this series of booklets from The Lace Guild is to offer beginner's guides that can be followed with our without teacher support
Picture
What works well?
  • As Milanese lace forms patterns through the movement of the bobbins rather than pins, the photographs in this book really add to the instructions on making these braids.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • The pattern shown on the front of the booklet is included as pattern 1.
  • This book is currently available from both The Lace Guild and lace suppliers
What do other people say?
This booklet has been reviewed by lace gumnuts
Available direct from The Lace Guild (you don’t have to be a member to purchase from them), or from many mail order lace equipment suppliers.
It contains all instructions for getting started, with 4 patterns each fully documented, plus a fifth pattern to experiment with yourself.  It includes clear diagram for the braids used in the patterns (8 different braids in all).
Like all the UK Lace Guild Booklets, a wonderful starter.

I'm the lace bee and these are my books

With currently over 300 books and about the same number of individual patterns, I have an enviable library.  So here are some of my books.

You can see all of the titles by opening up the archives or by clicking on the categories which I've used to group by authors, language and lace types

I am very grateful to the lace gumnuts of Australia for permission to quote and link to their reviews to this site.
