Preserved in the Library of Congress are 22 black silk bobbin lace samples, deep amongst the paper of Alexander Hamilton. What makes these pieces so unique is that their provenance is not just known but documented. We know where and when they were made and they offer a unique insight into the lives of the women lacemakers of that period. This book is both a history of Ipswich lace and a source of patterns. The photos in the historical section work well to illustrate and add depth to the history.
