The Romance of the Lace Pillow - Thomas Wright

Publisher : Ruth Bean Publishers; 4th Revised edition (1 Sept. 1982)
ISBN-10 : 090358512X
ISBN-13 : 978-0903585125
The Romance of the Lace Pillow
Thomas Wright was a romantic and his book is unintentionally funny and well worth a read.
It covers the history of lacemaking and for anyone in the East Midlands, has information on the villages involved in the industry along with nursery rhymes based on the lace tells.  One, Two, buckle my shoe ...
Picture
What works well?
  • Thomas Wright is a 'one-eyed' lace lover who wrote this book and does show favouritism towards certain things (for example, he dismisses Marlowe as a playwright due to his lace of references to lace and lacemaking).  This makes the book very entertaining.
Anything that we need to take into consideration?
  • Written in 1919, the language can be a little archaic, but is worth the effort to read.
  • This book is  available as a pdf to download

I'm the lace bee and these are my books

With currently over 300 books and about the same number of individual patterns, I have an enviable library.  So here are some of my books.

You can see all of the titles by opening up the archives or by clicking on the categories which I've used to group by authors, language and lace types

I am very grateful to the lace gumnuts of Australia for permission to quote and link to their reviews to this site.
